Useful Graph #3 – Some industries catching on faster than others
This graph comes from,‘Sustainability nears a tipping point’, by MITSloan Management Review and the Boston Consulting Group.
Read the review in full here.
This report details findings of MITSloan and BCG’s 2011 Sustainability & Innovation Global Executive Study and Research Project, where leaders from major industries were surveyed about, as one would assume from the title of the review, sustainability and innovation.
Two questions were whether sustainability was permanently on the agenda of your organisation’s top management, and whether pursuing sustainability-related strategies were necessary to be competive. This graph puts those questions on the y and the x axes respectively, and tabulated the data by industry.
Interestingly, industries that fall under the ‘Resource Intensive’ banner both have it on their agenda more and view it as necessary to be competitive more than ‘Service and Technology’ industries.
The only outlier? The construction industry. For some reason they view sustainability as necessary to be competitive more so than last year, but have it on the agenda less often.
Good luck with that.
